Pedasí is not only a getaway for celebrities escaping their busy lives, it is also a wildlife refuge. Iguana Island lies 7 kilometers off the coast of Pedasí and has two beautiful white-sand beaches that will make you believe you are in the Caribbean, not the Pacific.

In 1980, the Iguana Island Wildlife Refuge was created to preserve this ecological and tourist destination. Its 58 hectares are home to many animals, including magnificent frigatebirds (Fregata magnificens) and the iguanas that seem to own the island.

Iguana Island is an excellent diving spot in Panama. A 16-hectare coral reef surrounds the island, with 11 species of coral about 4,800 years old and some 542 species of fish. You can go scuba diving or snorkeling, and you can ask your boatman to take you to Los Hongos, a more untouched site.

To get to Iguana Island, take a fishermen's boat from Playa El Arenal. Tours can include whale watching (June to October) or fishing.
